NEP wraps up regular season with five unbeatens, seven in playoffs

The NEP Wildcats recently capped off the season with solid weekends in the last two weeks to head into the playoffs with some steam.

Five of the eight teams are still unbeaten headed into postseason play and seven of eight teams qualified for the Northwest Florida Youth Sports Association playoffs this season.

6U beats Brent, Myrtle Grove

The 6U Wildcats finished a perfect 8-0 in the regular season with wins over Myrtle Grove and Brent in the last two games of the season.

The Wildcats beat Myrtle Grove 30-0 before knocking off Brent 20-14 on Saturday to finish 8-0. NEP 6U will enter the playoffs as one of the top three seeds, finishing in a three-way tie for first place with Pensacola Tigers (SYSA) and Bellview.

Playoff seedings will be determined on Sunday.

7U rolls past Pace, Bellview

The 7U Wildcats continued to roll in the 2018 season with wins over Pace and Bellview in the final two games to go to 8-0 in regular season play.

The Wildcats beat Pace 30-0 and then knocked off Bellview 27-0 to finish the season as the No. 1 seed in the 7U playoffs. The Wildcats will have a first-round bye in the playoffs before facing the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup in the second round.

NEP’s 7U team have outscored opponents 195-19 this season.

8U bests Myrtle Grove, edges Brent

The 8U Wildcats also wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 8-0 record, but had to work hard for it in the finale.

After taking care of Myrtle Grove by a 41-12 margin, the Wildcats needed a punt return by Kaden Ware on the final play of the game to edge Brent 7-6 in the season finale.

Ware ran in the conversion to lift the Wildcats to the victory and 8-0 record.

The 8U Wildcats will either be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the playoffs, finishing in a tie with East Pensacola Rattlers for the No. 1 spot.

9U Wildcats wrap up unbeaten season

The 9U Wildcats took care of business in the final two games to finish 8-0 in the regular season. The Wildcats won rematches with Pace and Bellview to improve to 8-0.

NEP beat Pace 16-6 to give the Patriots their only two losses in the last three years. The Wildcats then turned around and edged the Packers 8-7 to lock up the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

The Wildcats will have a first-round bye in the playoffs before taking on the winner of the 4-5 matchup in the second round.

10U Wildcats lock up playoff spot

The 10U Wildcats split in the final two games, but locked up a playoff spot with a win over Brent in the finale.

NEP’s 10U squad suffered a tough 7-6 loss to Myrtle Grove, meaning the game against Brent was a must-win scenario to avoid having to rely on tiebreakers to get into the playoffs.

The Wildcats took care of business, beating Brent 22-0 to finish 5-3 on the season and in a four-way tie for fourth place. The Wildcats will go against Gulf Breeze, Milton and Myrtle Grove in a blind hat draw to determine seeds 4 through 7.

11U blanks Pace, rolls past Bellview

The 11U Wildcats also capped off a perfect regular season with wins over Pace and Bellview.

The Wildcats beat Pace 30-0 before handling Bellview 40-6 in the finale.

The Wildcats are currently tied with Wedgewood for the No. 1 seed in 11U. Wedgewood plays Navarre this weekend in the finale and will most likely go to a coin toss to determine No. 1 seed in playoffs, since the two teams didn’t play in regular season.

Resilient 12U squad beats Myrtle Grove, falls to Brent

The 12U Wildcats continued to fight hard until the very end, knocking off Myrtle Grove 36-6 to put them within striking distance of a playoff berth.

But the Wildcats dropped a 27-0 loss to Brent in the finale to finish 2-8 and one game out of the final playoff spot.

14U Wildcats finish off with two more wins

The 14U Wildcats made it seven wins in a row, knocking off Myrtle Grove and Brent in the final two games to improve to 7-1 heading into the postseason.

The Wildcats’ lone loss of the season came in the season opener against No. 1 seed Milton. The Wildcats find themselves in a four-way tie with Bellview, Gulf Breeze and Pensacola for the No. 2 spot. Those four teams will participate in a blind hat draw to determine the Nos. 2 through 5 seeds in the playoffs.

First round of playoffs will take place on Nov. 3 at various parks in the area. Second round is scheduled for Nov. 10 and the championship games are Nov. 17 at Milton High School.
