NEP Cheer captures firsts; football sends all eight teams to playoffs
The NEP Cheer teams competed in the ECCA Cheer Competition at Navarre High School on Saturday and came home with a couple of first-place trophies, a grand championship and two third-place trophies.
The Mighty-Mites claimed third place, while the Mini-Mites took first place during the early session of the competition.
The Mites followed with another third-place showing, while the Midgets/Juniors team capped off the day in style with a first-place finish and a grand championship showing in the non-mount division.
Football sends all eight teams to playoffs
On Sunday, the NWFYSA held its annual playoff seeding meeting and all 8 NEP teams have advanced to postseason play, a first in program history. NEP has the most teams in the playoffs in the NWFYSA.
Three of NEP's teams are No. 1 seeds, while four other teams enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed. NEP enters the playoffs with an overall park record of 57-7, with four unbeaten teams headed into postseason play.
NEP will also play host to the 11U and 12U playoffs (first and second rounds) as both the 11U and 12U teams are No. 1 seeds in their respective brackets.
First-round games will get underway Saturday around the area. Championship games will take place on Nov. 16 at Escambia High School.
The 6U Wildcats are the No. 1 seed in their bracket and will take on the Brent Raiders at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Milton.
The 7U Wildcats grabbed the No. 2 seed and will have a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Wildcats will play the Pace-Navarre winner in the second round at A&G's Magee Field.
In 8U, the Wildcats drew the No. 2 seed and will open the tournament against the Brent Raiders at 3 p.m. at A&G's Magee Field. Should the Wildcats win, they would advance to play the A&G-Navarre winner in the second round.
The 9U Wildcats ended up as the No. 2 seed and will have a first-round bye in the playoffs, which will be held at SYSA's Legion Field. The Wildcats will play the Bellview-Perdido winner in the second round.
In 10U, the Wildcats drew the No. 2 seed and will play a familiar foe in the first round in the Bellview Packers. The Wildcats and Packers met in the season opener this year, as well as in last year's 9U championship game. The game is set for an 11 a.m. start at SYSA's Legion Field.
The unbeaten 11U Wildcats are the No. 1 seed and will have a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Wildcats will play the Milton-Perdido winner in the second round at Roger Scott.
The 12U Wildcats are the No. 1 seed and will open against Gulf Breeze at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Roger Scott.
And the 14U Wildcats are the No. 5 seed and play No. 4 Brent at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Bellview.
